Abstract

Objective: Evaluate the risk of sarcopenia in patients with lipodystrophy associated with the human immunodeficiency virus undergoing antiretroviral treatment, attended at an outpatient clinic in Belém - Pará. Method: This is a cross-sectional observational study conducted with 66 patients between May and June 2023. The SARC-F and SARC-Calf protocols were used, with calculations of 95% confidence intervals, odds ratio, Student’s t-test, and the Kappa index to assess agreement between scales. Result: The sample was predominantly male (54.5%) and mostly aged 40 to 59 years (56.1%). Mixed lipodystrophy prevailed (83.3%), and the risk of sarcopenia was identified in 34.8% of cases, being more frequent in females, with a chance 6.54 times higher (p=0.002) and a tendency in older ages (p=0.051). Conclusion: Female sex and advanced age are independent risk factors. These findings underscore the necessity for systematic sarcopenia screening to enhance public health programs and improve patient outcomes, and further studies.
