Abstract

Mastectomy, frequently indicated in the treatment of breast cancer, leads to anatomical changes and psychosocial repercussions that affect women’s rehabilitation and quality of life. External breast prostheses represent a relevant non-surgical alternative, contributing to body balance and the reconstruction of self-image. This systematic review critically analyzed the literature on personalized prostheses, considering technological, clinical, psychosocial, and institutional aspects. A total of 25 studies were included and organized into four axes: technologies and manufacturing processes; user experience; biomechanical performance; and implementation challenges. The consolidation of a digital workflow involving geometry acquisition, three-dimensional modeling, and manufacturing was identified, with different production approaches. Weight and mass distribution emerged as key factors for comfort and postural alignment. Positive impacts on self-esteem and quality of life were observed. However, challenges related to standardization, clinical validation, and implementation persist, limiting large-scale adoption in public health systems.
