Objective: To analyze the scientific evidence addressing the sociodemographic and clinical characterization of cancer patients. Method: This is an integrative literature review, conducted in the SCIELO and BDENF databases. Articles published between 2018 and 2023, available in full text, were included. The search strategy was developed using the PICo acronym. After applying the eligibility criteria, data were extracted using a validated instrument. Results: 26,312 articles were identified, of which 1,242 were selected for abstract reading and 33 for full text reading, resulting in 28 eligible articles for the study. The final sample consisted of 28 studies. Conclusion: Understanding the characteristics of these patients is essential for the work of the multidisciplinary team, favoring the planning of more effective and appropriate actions. This knowledge can support the implementation of strategies for health promotion, disease prevention, early diagnosis, health education, and timely treatment, contributing to comprehensive care for the individual.
