Abstract

Objective: To analyze the microbiological profile of urinary tract infections associated with indwelling urinary catheter use in adult intensive care units in the Federal District. Method: Ecological, retrospective and descriptive study using secondary data from official reports on healthcare-associated infections collected from 2019 to 2023. Results: Klebsiella pneumoniae was the most frequently isolated
agent, showing high antimicrobial resistance, followed by Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Resistance to carbapenems and polymyxins showed an increasing trend. Enterococcus faecalis was also identified as a relevant Gram-positive agent. Conclusion: The high prevalence of multidrug-resistant microorganisms highlights the urgent need for effective infection control strategies, rational use of antimicrobials, and ongoing surveillance to prevent bacterial spread in critical care environments.
