OBJECTIVE: To analyze the methods used by dental surgeons to manage anxiety in dental patients through an integrative literature review. METHOD: Seventeen articles published between 2019 and 2024 were included, selected from SciELO, Virtual Health Library and Google Scholar databases according to pre-established criteria. RESULT: The identified strategies are divided into pharmacological, non-pharmacological and mixed methods. Non-pharmacological techniques showed good acceptance, easy application and low cost, being effective in mild and moderate cases. Pharmacological methods proved essential in severe cases, requiring technical preparation and adequate infrastructure. Combined strategies promoted more humanized and effective care. CONCLUSION: Proper anxiety management requires identifying the patient’s anxiety level and adopting the most appropriate interventions, contributing to treatment success and patient well-being.
